Red-bellied woodpecker. Saw this guy at the birdfeeder this morning. It was about 18 degrees below zero at the time. There wasn’t much left in the feeder, so as soon as he flew away, I filled it. Tried not to think about how cold those seeds are, that they are filling their bellies with. Nor how cold the air they travel through must feel on their feathers. He was a beauty to see, that zigzagging black and white, topped with a red cap.
