Sometimes I paint untranslatable words

Koko (枯高) (Japanese) weathered beauty, austere sublimity.

What is more weather, more beautiful

than the ocean

and everything it touches;

driftwood, sand, stone, beachglass

tumbled till their sharp edges

are smooth

till their color is worn

to the hues

of distant waters, distant

shores

the ones you dream of

the ones I see

when you wake

in the color

of your eyes.
